Poem: Looking Beyond the Black and White

Are we just simple human beings

with blood and skin?

Do our hearts

pump the same?

Do blood run

through our veins?

Do we have

the same skeletal framework?

Do our hair

grow from the root?

Do we

all possess a brain?

In the simplest form,

we’re the same.

In reality,

we’re not.

We grasp

onto our upbringing

and gather

in our groups.

We deny

what’s the truth

and live

what we believe.

We’re a society

deep-seated

in its roots.

Afraid to look

beyond

the black and white

and  afraid

to accept the truth.
