Intermittent Fasting Weight Loss: Over Two Years Later

Intermittent Fasting Weight Loss: The journey continues. As I look back on September 14, 2018, I see a person who was fed up with my appearance. I wanted a change. However, I didn’t want to spend the money nor did I have the money to make the change. So, I chose internet research to spawn my intermittent fasting weight loss journey.

Now, over two years later, I’ve managed to keep off 43 lbs. However, I did get within 5.8 lbs. of my goal last year. Unfortunately, I backslid and gained some of the weight back. But, I didn’t let that setback keep me from working toward my goal.

Intermittent Fasting Weight Loss

Even though I mostly follow the 16/8 method, it is extremely important to watch what you eat. It’s okay to occasionally treat yourself to a high-calorie delight but you mustn’t go overboard. I made that mistake in July and August of last year. It cost me to gain over ten lbs. that I’m struggling to lose to this day.

It pains me to admit that I’m now 21.8 lbs. from my original goal of a 65 lb. weight loss. That means I have a -2 lb. weight loss from 1/1/20 to 1/1/21. However, I must confess that I don’t exercise. Maybe, if I did some exercise, I would’ve seen more weight loss. But, I am down two pants sizes. So, I have made progress of not going up in pants size.

The Scales and the Weight Loss Tracker

I religiously try to weigh myself every day and record it on my weight loss tracker. This habit has allowed me to think twice when I want to overindulge. It’s like I mentally weigh if the indulgence is worth the extra weight. Nine times out of ten, I choose not to overindulge.

Sometimes, it’s hard to limit your food intake to mostly healthy foods like fruits and vegetables. I’ve had to limit scrolling through Pinterest and Instagram because sometimes the food pictures make my cravings go into overdrive. I opt for yogurt to satisfy my sweets craving.

Water, Green Tea, and Herbal Tea

These days my favorite drinks are water, green tea, and herbal tea. I’ve learned to love consuming unsweetened tea. Before every meal, I drink at least a cup and a half of water. Then, while I’m eating, I drink about a cup of water. After eating, I drink another cup and a half of water. Throughout the remainder of my day, I alternate drinking cups of water and tea. This not only reduces my food cravings but also helps my health. Thus, allowing me to keep my weight under control.

The Mighty Tape Measure

I don’t measure myself every day as I weigh myself every day. However, I do try to measure myself at least once every two weeks. I’ve noticed that my measurements fluctuate an inch and a half while my weight fluctuates three to five pounds a week.

The measurements are useful when finding the right size of clothing to select. Different brands have different sizing. I found that out the hard way. When I first lost the weight, I ordered a pair of jeans according to my measurements and the jeans were too large. I had to alter them to fit because I hate returning things. When I bought a different brand in the same size, it was a perfect fit.

And the Journey Continues

My weight loss journey has become a way of life for me. My relationship with food is one where I consume food in moderation. I’ve found if I crave it, I should cave into my craving because I may overeat other things trying to resist my craving. Occasionally, I look in the mirror at my body and appreciate how far I’ve come, and realize how much further I need to go. With the proper mindset, anything is possible.

As a reminder, intermittent fasting isn’t for everyone and may pose a health risk for certain people. Before considering fasting, you should consult with a medical professional.
